😂Summer time: Despacito 🇮🇹❤️🇪🇸

It is not even summer yet and I think we can officially declare “Despacito by Luis Fonsi ft. Daddy Yankee as THE song of the summer of 2017. Unless you’ve been isolated in a remote location you must be familiar with this song:

It’s been played on radio stations all over the world several times a day and then, back in April Justin Bieber made it even more viral if possible by releasing his own version (even though he is not quite familiar with the lyrics still).

🤔Opinion: Spanish ONLY?! 🇪🇸

When I was a teaching assistant, one of the most popular questions I got asked was: “Do you actually talk to the students in Spanish ALL THE TIME?”

This ‘Spanish only’ approach is actually quite old*. A great example that illustrates how old this matter is is the following sketch from SNL. *Eddie Murphy old.

There is a thin line between helping the students and making them feel stupid (big mistake) or disengaged. So where is the key for me? It is not that simple.

📚 + 📺 Ian Gibson on Spain 🇪🇸

Last night I was really happy to see this interview with Ian Gibson (Irish author and Hispanist) on a Spanish late night show called Late Motiv.

📍Auroville 🇮🇳 – (Revision) 🇪🇸

auroville-ii-1500x686

I was lucky enough to find a chronicle I can relate to most of the topics covered in the AQA A2 exam. It took me some time until I found the perfect story for my students’ revision time.

It is some info about a place called Auroville (in India) and the idea of a place with no official religion, currency and a very particular form of government seems fascinating to me and fortunately my students liked it too so feel free to have a look and use it in your lessons if you find it useful.
